KOTTAYAM: A real-time monitoring station will be set up at Erattupetta to conduct instant study of earthquakes in the district, Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said on Sunday.   This will help in getting data about the impending tremors to prepare the administration to take necessary safety measures, he said at a meeting held to take stock of the cracks found in Mullaperiyar dam after an earthquake that rocked the area the other day.    The monitoring centre becomes essential in the wake of reports that Poonjar and Wagamon areas are susceptible to earthquakes.     District Collector Mini Antony said that necessary facilities would be provided for setting up the centre.    The minister said that immediate steps should be taken to reduce the storage level of Mullaperiyar dam from 136 ft.    He also sought steps to create awareness among people in dealing with earthquake situations.  The committee studying the fresh cracks in the  dam will hold discussion with a five-member Empowered Committee and submit the report to the Chief  Minister.
