Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) demanded on Tuesday, that the Andhra Pradesh government immediately publicise Chanchalguda prison's closed circuit TV (CCTV) footage to establish who met whom and how many times. "We have written a letter to the Director General of Police three days ago requesting him to prevent use of cellular phones in the prison by Jagan Mohan Reddy." But there was no response. The person who looted the state has been sent to jail, but he has turned it into his den for political activities. We are left to suspect that the state government is hand-in-glove with him since it failed to take any action against him," TDP politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu alleged at a press conference on Tuesday.
The former minister said every activity within the prison has to be recorded using CCTV cameras. "But we are told that CCTV cameras in Chanchalguda are dysfunctional. If they are functioning, the government should immediately publicise the video tapes," he demanded. Former IPS officer and TDP leader Ravulapati Seetarama Rao pointed out that only two people were permitted to visit an undertrial prisoner per week.
"Jail authorities should explain how a particular political prisoner is being allowed to meet countless number of visitors daily. The prison superintendent should put an end to such illegal activities and enforce rules strictly," Seetarama Rao said.
