CHENNAI: A propety tiff resulted in the murder of a 60-year-old man in Nungambakkam while two others of the family are in hospital in critical condition.Police identified the deceased as Ezhmalai (60), a retired watchman who lived on Thirumurthy Nagar Fourth Street, Nungambakkam, with his wife Govindammal. He was reportedly stabbed by Mahadevan (30), son of Govindammal’s brother Ponnusamy, following a verbal altercation over a property dispute. The two families lived next door, police said. On Friday, the two families had a face off in the afternoon over the dispute that had been going on for some time. Later at night, Mahadevan, an office boy at a city hospital, arrived at Ezhmalai’s house with a knife and picked up a fight over the same issue. Mahadevan then stabbed Ezhmalai, killing him on the spot. Govindamal tried to intervene but sustained cut injuries on her neck. She was rushed to a hospital.Soon after, Mahadevan went back home and consumed acid, police said. He has been taken to a nearby private hospital. His condition is said to be critical. Police have registered a case.
