Priest Campaigning for BJP Attacked in Gujarat's Junagadh
Police said Swami Bhakti Prasad, a priest of the Swaminaryan sect, was attacked while he was returning home after campaigning in Kotda village.

Gandhinagar: A priest who was campaigning for the BJP in Gujarat was attacked by two unidentified men on Thursday night in Junagadh.

Police said Swami Bhakti Prasad, a priest of the Swaminaryan sect, was attacked while he was returning home after campaigning in Kotda village.

In his complaint, Prasad said his SUV was waylaid by another car. Two men got out of the vehicle and smashed the window panes. The priest said the men objected to him campaigning for the BJP. Prasad received minor injuries.

The priest said the public will give a befitting reply against this attack.

BJP leader Jitu Patel alleged that the Congress was behind the attack. “The BJP is a party that embraces the Hindutva ideology. That is the reason why the Congress has attacked the Swaminarayan sadhu."

The Congress refuted the allegations and said the incident must be probed. “Law and order is the responsibility of the state. Immediately arrest the culprits and the truth will be known. The Congress party has nothing to do with this at all," said Bharatsinh Solanki, president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).

Campaigning for the first phase of Gujarat Assembly elections ended on Thursday. The voting will place on Saturday.
