New Delhi: Chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has been allowed to go abroad for his treatment.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said that Geelani's passport be made available to him. The decision came after doctors treating Geelani at the Apollo Hospital said that tests have confirmed malignancy in his right kidney.

The doctors conducted three tests — CT Scan, Bone Scan and Scan Guided Biopsy — and confirmed that the diagnosis was positive.

Geelani had formally applied for passport to enable him to travel abroad for medical treatment. Geelani is suffering from cancer and his passport had been impounded by the central Government since 1981.
