CHENNAI: A writ plea has been made in the Madras High Court for a direction to the TN Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) to eliminate death due to electrocution and power theft.The first Bench comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam, before which the public interest writ petition from Nethaji Pokkuvarathu Thozhilalargal Pathukappu Sangam came up for hearing on Monday, directed the TANGEDCO counsel to get instructions and file his counter by four weeks.Petitioner’s counsel R Y George Williams contended that due to the poor maintenance of the lamp posts, transformers, electricity junction boxes and other related items, electrocution occurred. Anti-social elements steal power due to the lethargic attitude of the officials. The petitioner sent a representation to the TANGEDCO in this regard. As there was no response, he filed the present PIL.
