The Delhi government has taken cognisance of the extreme step taken by a couple in the national capital after their son died without getting treatment for dengue. Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain has said that the government will issue notice to the hospitals in question, assuring that strict action will be taken.
"It is a shameful incident. We are issuing notice to the hospital...strict action will be taken against whoever is responsible," said Jain.
Narrating the ordeal that the parents of the child went through before committing suicide, one of their neighbours told CNN-IBN said, "They had to jump four hospitals for hours to get a doctor to attend to him. And to move around with a critical patient destroyed his chances of living."
The parents of the seven-year-old boy, who died of Dengue earlier this week, have committed suicide.
Their bodies were found near their home in Lado Sarai in south Delhi with their hands tied.
The child of the couple was denied admission to Moolchand Medicity and Max Saket, two of the biggest hospitals in south Delhi. The hospital authorities had claimed that all their beds for dengue patients were full.
The child was finally admitted to Batra Hospital in Tughlakabad Extension, where he was pronounced dead after a night in the hospital.
The family hailed from Kendrapara in Odisha. The police recovered a suicide note written in Odia which said, "It is nobody's fault. It is our decision."
According to the police, an inquiry has been initiated and an FIR will be registered once the post-mortem report is received.
