New Delhi: Islamabad may want the world to believe that it has cracked down on the Jamaat-ud-Dawa. But that it has lied on the issue and has no powers to actually do so is evident. There is concrete evidence now that the Lashkar-e-Toiba's front organization has re-emerged in the form of Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Qibla Awal.
First the Lashkar turned Jamaat-ud_Dawa after being banned and it now turns into another group to continue its clandestine unlawful activities.
Leaders of the group were seen addressing a protest rally in Lahore.
This is not the first time that Pakistan has made promises to break them with impunity.
A month after the Pakistan government claimed it had shut down the Jamaat ud Dawa (JuD) which is an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and put its leadership under arrest, many were seen at a rally in Lahore protesting Israeli strikes in Gaza.
So while the Chief of the JuD- Hafeez Saeed's detention was extended on Friday for two months, his key assistants such as Hafiz Saif Ullah and Maulana Munawar Hassan continue to operate openly.
It's also confirmed- the Jamaat- banned on December 10 after a UN Security Council resolution is now operating under a new name Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Qibla Awal, that invited people to the rally.
The lack of restrictions on the banned group are already drawing comment within the country.
In a report the national daily The News called the government's measures against the Jamaat "half-hearted".
The steps taken so far by the government are "merely give an illusion of compliance with the restrictions ," the report said. It also added that the group's flag still flies over its headquarters in Muridke, and the Jamaat continues to run its schools and charities.
The video of the Jamaat leaders, along with Allama Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, a mainstream Talibani. He played a vital role in the returning of the Pakistani Taliban from Afghanistan's Shabarghan jail.
Pakistan whips up lie after lie to the UN and the international community, reiterating that it is cracking down on terror.
Pakistan has also not acted upon its promise to bring all the players on its soil who brought about the Mumbai attacks.
The Tehreek seems to be operating quite openly.
