NEYYATINKARA: Defence Minister A K Antony on Tuesday took the UDF poll campaign in Neyyatinkara by storm by attacking the CPM in strongest terms and reminding the electorate that Onchiyam would be repeated in the state if LDF emerged victorious in the bypoll. Kicking off the campaign from coastal Pozhiyoor in the morning, Antony focused on the ‘’good work’’ done by the Oommen Chandy-led UDF Government and the recent developments involving the CPM . ‘’Can we think of living in a savage era, where remnants of Stalinism is leading a section of the CPM leadership,’’ he asked. ‘’Even chicken will not be cut in the brutal fashion as T P Chandrasekharan was hacked to death, by inflicting 52 cuts on him,’’ he said. Looking at women among those assembled to hear him at various meets, he said that widows likeTP’s wife Rema should not stare at us anymore. ‘’The Onchiyam murder should be the last political murder in the state. The people of Neyyatinkara should see to it that the murder of politics is buried for ever,’’ Antony said. At Pazhayakada, in Tirupuram grama panchayat, he said that the poll scenario in Neyyatinkara is not the same as when the election was announced. ‘’Even a few friends in the CPM had told me earlier that a political bomb is going to explode soon after the polls. But I have found now that the LDF is going to be in tatters after the polls,’’ he said.He also said that R Selvaraj had switched over to the UDF after realising that it would not be good to remain alone after quitting the Assembly and the CPM. Antony also listed out the achievements such as allocation of Rs 1/kg rice for 14.5 lakh families in the state, sanctioning of ration cards on the same day of receiving an application and the health insurance schemes.“The performance of Chandy’s govt is marvelous. If the govt could work wonders in a single year, it can change Kerala in four years. The government is not only focussing on big projects but addressing the pressing needs of commoners and the poor,’’ Antony said. Antony addressed seven meets as part of the campaign. Addressing the meet earlier, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy urged the electorate to compare the work done in one year by the present UDF Govt and the performance of the previous LDF Govt in five years.
