A days after an Uber cab driver was sentenced to life for harassing a woman passenger in Delhi in 2014, an Ola cab driver has been arrested on charges of misbehaving with a female passenger and her daughter.
According to police, the driver took a detour which sparked an argument with the complainant. The driver demanded the complainant and her daughter exit the vehicle.
The woman then called the police and the driver was arrested soon after on charges of threat and intimidation.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on the night of December 5, 2014 when the victim, a finance executive working in Gurgaon, was heading back to her house at Inderlok.
On Tuesday, Uber cab driver Shiv Kumar Yadav, who was held guilty of raping a woman passenger in his taxi and trying to strangulate her while committing the act, was sentenced to life by a Delhi court. The accused was arrested on December 7, 2014 from Mathura and is currently in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, Ola cabs issued a statement and claimed that action has been taken against the accused. "We have terminated the said vehicle and the driver from the Ola platform after reaching out to the customer to take her feedback. We have zero tolerance for this kind of behaviour from drivers-partners registered with us. We have also assured full support on sharing all required information like driver details, GPS coordinates etc., if need be, to help her pursue this. Ola is committed to the safety of its users at all times,” a statement by Ola cabs said.
