KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has said that the activities of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) should not be confined to office rooms but taken to the younger generation at the grassroots level.
He added that the prime responsibility of the organisation ever since its inception 40 years ago was to effectively array youths for the progressive development of the nation.
Delivering the keynote address of the Nehru Yuva Kendra leadership camp here on Wednesday, he said that the Kendra should strive hard to unite youth hailing from various cultural backgrounds and living conditions.
A movement against evils in society such as superstitions, alcoholism and drugs is the need of the era and the NYK should play a key role in it, he exhorted. He also congratulated Salim Hammed, who assumed charge as the director of the NYK. Taking cue from the suggestion of the KPCC president, Salim Hammed said that he was keen on taking the activities of the NYK to the villages.
NYK state members Habeeb Khan, Manjavilakam Jayan, NYK director V Rajasekharan Nair and zonal director S Satheesh participated.
Inaugurating the meet earlier, Youth Welfare Minister P K Jayalakshmi reminded the youths that they should be capable to creatively respond to the changing demands of time.
A Sampath MP presided over the session.
