CHENNAI: It seems that quite a few popular restaurants, out of the 30-odd Kerala eat outs in the city are refusing reservations this year, simply because of the immense rush on the occasion. Despite the claim that reservation was required for a 10-member party, a phone attendant at a well known restaurant on Kodambakkam High Road said, “No, madam. It is only on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you have a big party, please come by 12 noon, which is when we open.” A certain upmarket restaurant in Alwarpet revealed that reservations were overbooked as early as Wednesday, not to mention a dearth of tables, courtesy their more prized clientele. “But do come madam,” the attendant encouraged, “although you will have to wait for some time.”The overload of customers for Onam Sadhya is turning out to be a taxing affair and several Malayalee working professionals gripe that the option of eating out, or lack thereof, is no longer a welcome lunch date on Onam day.[email protected]
