NEW DELHI: A final decision on the IUML demand for a fifth ministerial berth is likely to be taken at a meeting of the UDF liaison committee meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.The IUML may have to be satisfied with a Rajya Sabha seat or the NORKA chairman post, it is learnt.The Congress leadership is learnt to have approved the KPCC’s line that a fifth ministerial post would upset the communal balance of the UDF.KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala told mediapersons here after meeting AICC president Sonia Gandhi that a final decision on the issue will be taken at the UDF meeting on Wednesday. He made it clear that he is not joining the government.There were reports that he would be inducted into the Cabinet as a Deputy CM as a compromise candidate meant to balance the communal equations of the UDF.It is, however, learnt that Chennithala refused the post of Deputy CM as Oommen Chandy was not willing to hand over the Home department to him as per his condition. Instead, he was offered the Revenue Department which Ramesh rejected.The high command did not press the matter also.After meeting AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala, Madhusoodhanan Mistry, and Ahmed Patel, Chennithala also held discussions with A K Antony and Vayalar Ravi before flying to Thiruvananthapuram. He also met E Ahmed and IUML MP E T Muhammed Basheer at the former’s residence here.
