The raids were carried out as part of a probe into the violence at Maharashtra?s Koregaon-Bhima village, triggered by an event called ?Elgar Parishad? (conclave) held in Pune on December 31 last year. Five activists and writers were arrested after the raids that are being perceived as a brazen attack on free speech in India. Those arrested by the police are Varavara Rao, Sudha Bhardwaj, Vernon Gonzalves, Arun Ferreira and Gautam Navalakha.
