BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railways is well on the path to make the Lanjigarh-Junagarh new line and Khurda Road Begunia stretch of the Khurda Road-Bolangir new line very shortly. The Phase II of the Khurda Road-Bolangir has been sanctioned and planning of the Puri-Delang section has reached the advanced stages, ECOR general manager Indra Ghosh said here today. Inaugurating the 57th Railway Week celebrations here, Ghosh said, East Coast Railways has achieved a record revenue loading of 120.77 MT in 2011-12, registering an increase of 10.8 percent over the previous fiscal when it was 108.99 MT. The incremental loading of ECoR has been the highest in Indian Railways as it has been the only major railway to have achieved the loading target in the last fiscal. The originating freight earnings increased from ` 7234.64 crore in 2010-11 to ` 8079.08 crore in 2011-12, registering an increase of 11.67 percent. During the year, the Railway division did achieve 86.16 million passenger against 79.37 million in the preceding year, which is one of the best in Indian railways. Seven new trains were also introduced connecting Odisha to different destinations across the country. East Coast railways has also achieved an operating ratio of 45.62 percent against the set target of 45.68 percent, he said. Ghosh said safety in train operations has to be kept foremost and urged upon the railway men to keep striving for system improvement continuously. He asked the staff and employees to be more close to the passengers and be attentive to their comfortable journeys. As many as 263 railway employees were felicitated withe certificates and efficiency medals in recognition of their outstanding services in the year. The Overall Efficiency shield was awarded to Khurda Road Division for all round performance. Chatrapur Station was adjudged the best Small Clean station while Titlagarh station was awarded the best Major Clean station shield. Among others deputy general manager Subrat Tripathy was present.
