BANGALORE: “Imagine how a calculator has shrunk in size over the years. The traditional tube light has now become a compact fluorescent lamp. There are limitless innovations possible with nanotechnology,” said Prof B R Lakshmikantha, Principal, Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management (DSATM) at the inauguration of a workshop on Nanotechnology and Bionsensors,  Present and Future Perspectives on Tuesday.The 2-day workshop (November 29 and 30) will focus on the nuances of nanotechnology. “Nanotechnology and Biosensors is a new multidisciplinary research field. It has a major role to play in the fields of health and civic infrastructure,” said Prof Lakshmikantha.The workshop is targeted at first year students, with the intention of helping them inculcate a habit of research. “The workshop is interdisciplinary in nature. Nanotechnology has implications on research in food analysis and biological processes,” said Dr Sreenivasa Rao Amaraneni, HoD, Dept of Chemistry. The workshop has been jointly organised by Indian Academy of Sciences (Bangalore), Indian National Science Academy (New Delhi), National Academy of  Sciences (Allahabad) and   the Department of Chemistry, DSATM.Some of the key speakers include Prof T N Guru Row, Prof Ananthasuresh, Prof Prabal K Maiti and Prof Rudra Pratap.
