New Delhi: In an interview to Pakistan's Aaj TV on Friday, Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf blamed former chief justice Iftikar Muhammad Choudhry for the violence in Karachi last week.
He said that Choudhry should not have gone to Karachi and said that the media was responsible for exaggerating Karachi violence and airing a one-sided view of the same.
Musharraf also said on Aaj TV, "I did not call Choudhry. He asked to see me. That was when I decided to confront him."
"The Chief Justice issue had been politicised," he added in the same breath.
Through his interview, Musharraf tried to also assure the world that there was no ethnic colour to Karachi violence.
He also said that there was no military rule in Pakistan adding that the National assemblies had legitimised his position.
There is also the issue of Musharraf's uniform, which many feel violates the Constitution.
However, Musharraf made it clear that the Constitution allows him to wear a uniform till December 2007 and that he would do nothing to violate the Constitution of the nation.
He said, "If 2/3rds majority back me on this issue, the my wearing the uniform becomes Constitutional."
"I can consider extra-Constitutional methods to enhance my standing on the uniform issue. But we will cross that bridge when we get to it," he added.
The issue of the uniform came up when a prominent politician of the ruling Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) alliance on Friday claimed that the General had decided to quit as Chief of Army and run for re-election as a civilian.
