New Delhi: Microsoft's XBox 360 is coming to India and hardcore gamers have already started jumping with joy.

For the uninitiated, here is a quick primer: videogames are not child's play any longer.

They make more money than the biggest Hollywood movies and they need consoles more powerful than most computers.

Microsoft's XBox 360 is faster, stronger and better than every other console in the market and you can do more than just play games on it.

On Tuesday, Microsoft announced that the XBox 360 will hit Indian stores on Diwali day in 2006.

Says Chairman, Microsoft India, Ravi Venkatesh, "Our software sales in India are pretty low because of piracy. But the top of the pyramid in India today is beginning to really change. There is the convergence of youth and affluence and a global outlook, so we think the conditions are extremely ripe for gaming to take off in a very serious way."

The base edition of the console is going to cost almost Rs 20,000 rupees and the complete edition with wireless controllers will cost almost 24,000 rupees - significantly more than what it would cost in the US thanks to a 31 per cent import duty.

Though MS is sweetening this price with bundled games, the basic message from the upbeat company is 'let the fun and games begin'.

What's your reaction?
