Rewa: Special Olympics medal winner Sita Sahu has been forced to work at a roadside eatery and sell gol gappas (a ball of flour filled with spicy water) in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. Sita had won two bronze medals in 2011 Athens Special Olympics but due to financial problems she has now been forced to work at a shop.
Sita had won two bronze medals, one in 200 and the other in 1600 meter race at Athens Special Olympics. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shiv Raj singh Chauhan had met Sita and encouraged her before she had left for Athens Special Olympics. He had also promised help to such children.
But in spite of winning two bronze medals Sita is in desperate need of financial help. Madhya Pradesh Social Justice Minister Gopal Bhargava had announced that Rs 50,000 would be givcen to every bronze medal winner and so Sita should have got Rs 1 lakh, but the reward is yet to materialise.
According to the Sita Sahu she had gone to Greece for the Olympic Games and done the country proud. She plans to continue with her sporting career but is not receiving any help from the government.
Sita's mother said that they were very poor and her husband is also not keeping well. "So we have been to forced to sell the chaat and other eatables. Even the government has not helped us, and Sita is very upset," she said.
