BANGALORE: Home and Transport Minister R Ashok inaugurated an AC lounge and shuttle bus services at satellite bus stand on Mysore Road on Saturday.The AC lounge, the second in the city built by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), is a 100-seater lounge with LED television screens, drinking water and rest room facilities. The first AC lounge is located at the Shanthinagar bus station.Speaking on the occasion, Ashok announced that the construction of Peenya satellite bus station has begun at a cost of `32 crore and will be completed by next year. The minister also inaugurated 10 feeder bus services - samparka sarige - from Kempegowda Bus station to the satellite bus stand.These buses are equipped with LED boards and have stop announcements. He announced that the Volvo and Rajahamsa bus services operated from Kempe Gowda bus station towards Mysore and beyond will be shifted to satellite bus stand on Mysore Road and due to this, the fare to Mysore and beyond has been reduced by Rs 10 in Volvo and one stage fare in Rajahamsa services.He said Kempegowda bus station is spread across 40 acres, out of which 7 acres will be given to Metro and 33 acres will be utilised for a new dimensional world-class bus stand.The minister said the KSRTC will soon introduce bus services to Hassan, Dharmasthala in a few days from Peenya bus stand to reduce the congestion. Commenting on the truckers’ strike, he said the state government has appointed transport secretary M K Shankaralinge Gowda as the nodal officer to monitor the ongoing truck strike.He also informed that BMTC and KSRTC are in talks with TATA and Ashok Leyland to launch hybrid bus service in the city to ease congestion on selected routes.
