Legislation will be introduced in the Budget session starting July 2.

New Delhi: The United Progressive Alliance Government is set to cleanse the judiciary with Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily on Friday declaring that a bill would be introduced soon in Parliament to make sure that judges declare their assets and liabilities.

"The government will introduce legislation on the disclosure of assets and liabilities by judges. The judges are going to disclose their assets and liabilities. This legislation is being drafted and discussions are going on with judiciary. The matter will be taken to the Cabinet," Moily said in New Delhi on Friday adding that the legislation would be introduced in the Budget session starting July 2.

While declaring his ministry's roadmap to reduce the burden of cases on the judicial system, Moily said that the slogan would be to reduce the time takes for a decision in a case from 15 years to three years.

He revealed that 50,613 cases were pending in the Supreme Court, 38 lakh in the different High courts and nearly 2.64 crore in district courts.

The worst High Court in terms of pending cases were Allahabad High Court followed by Patna and Madras, revealed Moily

He also pointed out that the government has an open mind for foreign funds and foreign law firms coming in the judicial sector.

"But unless there is a national debate on it and every stakeholder is taken into confidence we don't want to implement that," said Moily.

Taking a strong stand on the rising incidents of rape in the country, Moily assured of tough action saying, "Rape is worse than murder."

He also announced that Supreme Court judge Sudershan Reddy would be heading the committee for initiating impeachment proceedings against Calcutta High Court judge Soumitra Sen.
