NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court issued notices to the State of Tamil Nadu and the State of Kerala on Friday on a petition seeking to make them parties in a PIL that alleged corruption against former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan.The petition filed by a lawyer alleged that Balakrishnan was allotted two prime plots of land in Chennai under a benami transaction by then Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and also of amassing illegal assets in Kerala.A Bench comprising Chief Justice S H Kapadia, Justices K S Radhakrishnan and Swatanter Kumar issued notices on the petition seeking a judicial inquiry into the illegal assets possessed by Balakrishnan.The petition mentioned before the Bench on October 21 alleged that Karunanidhi misused his discretionary powers and allotted two prime plots in Chennai to Kannabiran, a former aide of Balakrishnan. It alleged that Kannabiran, whose monthly income was only Rs 10,000, had applied for the said land in Nolambur on February 7, 2008, and was allotted a plot the very next day. The second plot in Anna Nagar was allotted on April 3, 2008.
