: Police in Santiago arrested a man on Monday, described as the "Chilean Fritzl" when it was revealed he fathered four children with his daughter after sexually abusing her for 17 years.
Jesus Bartierra Jara abused his daughter Viviana Bartierra from the time she was eight years old.
Local police chief Mauro Pino said the girl finally mustered the courage to denounce her father in October 2008.
"In October 2008, a 25-year-old woman came to the station and made a charge where she said her father had sexually abused her from the time she was eight years old," he said.
The victim's grandmother said Bartierra hid the sexual abuse, saying she had a boyfriend who was responsible for getting her pregnant four times, the first when she was 15.
"She never said they were his children. She always said she had a boyfriend who had gone to La Sirena and he was going to come back for her," she said.
Neighbours of the family were suspicious of Jara, now 46.
"My wife always said to me that he was doing something bad, look at the daughter he has. Her face was strange, shamed," he said.
During a television interview on Tuesday (May 25), Bartierra said she did not tell on her father earlier because she was frightened.
"Because I was afraid, I was ashamed of everything," she said.
