At least six policemen were injured in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon on Thursday night after an angry mob protesting against the rape and murder of a minor girl laid siege to a police station.

Protest erupted late on Thursday night after the man accused of raping and killing a 6-year-old girl was arrested and brought to the Jamner Police Station. The minor was murdered nine days ago.

A restive crowd gathered outside the police station and started demanding the accused should be handed over to them.

To disperse the crowd, police resorted to lathicharge. The injured policemen were admitted to a district hospital.

The police reportedly also detained around 15 people for stone-pelting.

In the videos showing the aftermath of the clash, it can be seen that the mob vandalised some vehicles and burnt tyres.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena (UBT) has attacked the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led government in Maharashtra for failing to control the law and order situation in the state.

“Maharashtra is witnessing increasing incidents of violence; there are cases of broad daylight murders in Vasai, and in Jalgaon, a 6-year-old girl was raped and murdered. The public’s anger in Maharashtra is at its peak, and trust in the police is dwindling. Where is the state government” asked Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey.
