NAMAKKAL: With the markets showing a dull trend, the price of eggs was slashed to Rs 2.30 from Rs 2.40 per piece in the Namakkal zone on Thursday.The decision to effect a cut of 10 paise was taken at the meeting of the price fixation committee of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), Namakkal zone.The price remained stable for about 10 days at Rs 2.40 since March 26. However, due to festival holidays and Good Friday, the consumption level has dipped, industry sources said.“Dull market, dip in summer consumption and relatively lower exports are factors that forced the price cut,” the sources noted.The egg price peaked at its highest ever on January 6, touching `3.20 and it plummeted to the lowest rate, `2.35 on February 2.Nearly 3 crore eggs are being produced in the poultry farms in this zone, of which about 70 lakh eggs are sent to the noon meal scheme.
