BANGALORE: A large number of BJP legislators urged Governor H R Bhardwaj to give his assent for appointing Justice SR Bannurmath as Lokayukta.“We are also planning to march to Rashtrapathi Bhavan to petition to President asking her to recall Bharadwaj if he does not adhere to the constitutional norms of acting as per the advice of the government,” a ruling party legislator told Express.BJP sources told Express that they plan to move a resolution urging the Governor to accept the recommendation of the government and appoint Justice Bannurmath as Lokayukta.A majority of the ruling party legislators met informally on Thursday and discussed the deadlock between the Governor and the government on the issue of appointment of Lokayukta. While the government has recommended Justice S R Bannurmath for the post, the Governor, however, has been sitting on the proposal waiting for the government to send some other name for the post."By not heeding to the advice of the government, Bharadwaj has committed a serious constitutional impropriety. The delay in appointing the Lokayukta is caused by the Governor but unnecessarily the government is being blamed,” Yeddyurappa told Express.According to him, the Governor has to function as per the provisions of the statute. “The Governor, by asking the government to function as per constitutional norms has not realised that he too has to adhere to the constitution,” he added.
