For Minus thirty this time, that deals with the issue of homosexuality.....I spoke to lots of gay activists before the show. Most who were ok as long as the camera wasnt rolling...some who saw no need to hide anymore. And others who still are deep inside the closet. The one thing they all said though, was... "how do you live everyday..knowing the country thinks your a criminal?!"
"And the fact that the section (377...that declares homosexuality a criminal offence) clubs homosexuals with people who indulge in animal sex and pedophilia is so humiliating," explained one of the activists as he explained that the gay community is asking for section 377 to be relooked at..not abolished.
The man on the street ofcourse...has a very different perspective. For most ...just the idea of two men..seems graphic enough. "and i understand gay rights...and everything....but what i dont understand is..how can they. its just gross!" said one of the college guys on the street.
While most have no reason for thinking a gay relationship is abnormal.... the fact that its not what one would call conventional, is reason enough for it to be rubbished. And if you think its the uneducated lot that doesnt understand homosexuality.....think again. Sure...the well read brigade knows they have to be politically correct. Sure, they know that being "homophobic" will reflect badly on their educated selves... the fact is.. as one of the guys before the show put it very interestingly.. "for every closet gay there is...there's also a closet homophob who'se pretending to be cool with the idea..when deep down they're just not willing to understand we need rights too. And it's this patronising that probably hurts most".
the shows full of questions. One other which probably you and i can think of is "It's one thing to not be ok with homosexuality...but do you want to actually see these peopel behind bars?".... thatz the question.

Would the world really come to an end if two men got married? Would things really never be the same if two women lived happily together without ever needing a man? Or is it because this idea is so deeply threatening to masculinity...that so many just refuse to see another side to the adam and eve story.
