Patna: The corruption case against him and his family members has set off a political storm in Bihar. And RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav is hoping to weather this storm with divine intervention.
On Monday, Lalu performed a special pooja at his residence to “appease” Lord Shiva. Present with him were wife Rabri Devi and sons Tejashwi and Tej Pratap.
Rabri and Tejashwi have been booked along with Lalu in a land-for-hotels deal case. The CBI has accused Lalu of accepting land in return for awarding an IRCTC contract to a private firm when he was the railway minister in 2005. The land was allegedly transferred to Rabri and Tejashwi, the current deputy CM of Bihar, via a shell company.
The case has brought fissures in the Mahagathbandhan to the fore with the JD(U) asking Lalu to “come clean” on the charges. Lalu’s repeated dismissal of such demands has even forced Nitish Kumar to mull “sacrificing” his government to maintain his clean image.
RJD leaders present at Lalu’s Rudrabhishek said the prayer was “special as the family is facing hard times”.
A month ago, Tej Pratap Yadav had performed a Dushtnashak’ yagna, which was followed by Tejashwi’s visit to centuries-old Hariharnath and Gaurishankar temples in Sonepur where he, too, had performed Rudrabhishek.
Will divine luck finally shine on RJD’s first family? Only time will well.
