KOCHI: In a cold-blooded murder in the heart of Kochi on Thursday evening, a woman riding a two-wheeler was killed by the pillion-rider who slit her throat using a kitchen knife on the Kaloor-Kadavanthra road. Though the murder suspect, Rineesh, 34, of Kasargod, fled the scene with the vehicle, he later surrendered before the Ernakulam North Police station and was arrested.The woman, identified as Sreelatha, 38, of Ernakulam died on way to hospital.According to the police, the duo was living together even though they were not legally married and had a child. Rineesh was a peon in the branch of a Chennai-based fertiliser company in Vytilla and Sreelatha was a make-up woman for film artistes. Both had been living separately for the last two months. An eyewitness, Eswari, a road worker from Palani, told the police that the duo was coming from Kadavanthra to Kaloor. Near the Sebastian’s Road towards Judges’ Avenue junction, the vehicle slowed down.Suddenly, the man sitting behind the rider took out a knife and slit the woman’s throat and sped away on the vehicle. The woman’s helmet and the knife were found at the spot.After two hours, Rineesh surrendered before the police. He would be produced before the Judicial Magistrate on Friday.
