Karnataka's Koratagere Police Bust Cable Theft Racket, Arrest 3 Accused
The three accused had been stealing the cables installed in the tubewells of the farmers in many parts of the Koratagere for the past five or six months.

Koratagere, Karnataka has hit the headlines after the police busted a gang of three people accused of cable theft. On interrogation, the second accused Raghavendra revealed that he used to get a monthly salary of Rs 20,000 from the prime accused Venkatesh.

According to the Koratagere police, Venkatesh used to receive the stolen cable wires from Raghavendra who managed to steal them from the fields. Venkatesh then sold it to another accused named Vinesh Patil. Vinesh used to sell these wires and earn further money. Apart from the cable wires, Patil deals in selling many other stolen items.

Venkatesh hails from Basaveshwara Nagar, Bengaluru. There has been an unprecedented surge in cable-theft theft-related crimes in the Koratagere. These incidents have become one of the major concerns for the local police. The three accused had been stealing the cables installed in the tubewells of the farmers in many parts of the Koratagere for the past five or six months.

The complaints related to the cable wire thefts had been piling up since 2023. According to a report, incidents of robberies related to wire thefts have been reported at 25 places at Koratagere. As per the report, at that time, the inaction from the police added to the distress of the locals.

According to the farmers, the local police had made only empty claims of tracing the thieves but to no avail. They said that the government officials have also not responded to their complaints. Adding to their grievances was the fact that the officials switched off their mobile phones thus causing further problems for the locals. The farmers alleged that the robbers had stolen even 600-foot-long cable wire worth lakhs of rupees. The theft happened once a week.

The additional superintendent of the police, however, had refuted these claims. Instead, he said that whenever a farmer had contacted them, the police officials had immediately helped them. He also said that no official is allowed to turn off their mobile phones. He asked the farmers to cooperate with the police regarding the investigation.
