It was an emotional cabinet meeting as defence minister Rajnath Singh moved an important resolution to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the successful ‘pran pratishtha’ of the Ram Lalla idol at the Ayodhya temple on January 22. Calling him the ‘jannayak nayak’, the cabinet lauded the prime minister for his leadership in binding the people of the country through the story of the Ramayana.
Sources present at the meeting on Wednesday (January 24) said it was a special occasion, where everybody who has worked in the Narendra Modi-led government displayed a range of emotions.
“Prime Minister Modi, who had witnessed the ceremony in person and also participated in the ceremony, was in particular, very emotional. Rajnath Singh was reading out the resolution and the prime minister was silent throughout, but it seemed his silence conveyed multiple emotions,” a union minister told News18.
A round of applause followed after Rajnath Singh had read out the resolution at the meeting. The cabinet conveyed its congratulations to the PM for his effective leadership, which helped realise the dream of Ram devotees.
It is also learnt that during the meeting, several ministers told PM Modi about the ceremony’s success on the ground. And how people considered this to be an occasion of a lifetime with a carnival-like mood and celebrations on the streets.
An excerpt of the resolution read: “Under your (PM Narendra Modi) able leadership, this dream of the people of the country waiting for decades has seen the light of day. Today’s cabinet meeting is historic because we are talking about this holy ceremony which took place with your hands. This has been a wait of centuries. The Almighty chose you to do this noble deed is only an example that destiny had this in store for you.”
Singh further said: “In 1947, when India got independence… the body was made free. But with this, Ram temple being inaugurated, it has liberated our souls. Today we are witnessing an emotional scene in the cabinet, which is one of the rarest of rare occasions and it is only fair for all of us to feel proud and blessed for what we were able to witness in our lifetime.”
Singh also said India has witnessed many great occasions and also has seen public andolan, especially during times like the Emergency. But, he added, it is “unprecedented to see what a public andolan can be and how it can take shape and create a narrative as it happened during the (inauguration of) Ram Mandir”.
The minister also praised PM Modi for his 11-day ‘anushthan’ in the run-up to the ‘pran pratishtha’. He spoke about Modi’s resolute approach and vision by which he visited multiple places across India and told people the story of the Ramayana and its multiple connections.
