THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Once, the local office of a Malayalam daily was confronted with a strange incident. When PWD contractors started work on the roads in Kalady, the local ward councillor phoned the office and said that the roads were being dug up by the PWD making them unfit for motorists. A reporter rushed to the spot within seconds accompanied by a photographer, only to find nothing amiss. Only then did it dawn upon them that somebody had indeed pulled a prank posturing as the councillor. Kalady councillor K Krishnankutty, of the Congress, says he has been plagued by the impostor for some time now. Government offices and agencies, schools and Kudumbashree units - all have had to tolerate the pranks pulled by the stranger in his name. When he investigated, Krishanankutty found out that all the problems were created by the impostor. He even has a duplicate SIM of Krishnankutty with him, said the councillor. Krishnankutty says he knows who the culprit is, but has not approached the police yet. ‘’His activities are very disturbing. I have not slept, ever since the problems began five months ago. I warned him many times over phone, but he does not stop,’’ says Krishnankutty. The impostor often calls up the Government school in Kalady, then warns and scolds lady teachers in foul language. The school authorities have not tried to complain to the police or to any senior authorities, says Krishnankutty. The councillor says the problems started one week after he was elected councillor. ‘’I have to prove my innocence to all the authorities in the government offices. Some of the government officials cut my call now when I call them for urgent matters mistaking me for the other guy,’’ Krishnankutty says. The other day, Krishnankutty approached the media with his complaint. If the impostor does not desist, he would complain to the police, he said.
