PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister Rangasamy visited the Rajiv Gandhi Women and Children Hospital (RGWCH) at Ellaipillaichavady, a dream-come-true project for the goverment, considering that it is a model hospital in all respects. With the commencement of the inpatient services and conduct of deliveries, eight months after it was inaugurated by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on October 9, the hospital became fully functional for maternity services. The hospital OPD was started on January 18 and now the entire maternity services had shifted to the new hospital. Except for the few newly operated patients who had been undergoing treatment in the old maternity hospital, everyone had been moved to the new hospital today, said Dr Dilip Kumar Baliga, director, health and family welfare.  The maternity wing would function with a bed strength of 330. It has 30 labour tables in comparison to six in the old hospital, which would enable 30 deliveries at a time.  Moreover, there are nine operation theatres with 11 operation tables, to facilitate patients requiring delivery of babies through the caesarean method and surgical treatment of other gynecological disorders.   Similarly, the paediatric ward of the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Post-Graduate Institute (IGGGHPGI) would be shifted in the next couple of days to the new hospital.  The paediatric wing has a bed strength of 120.
