KURNOOL: Health officials sealed St Werburgh's Hospital here on Wednesday, holding the doctors and the management responsible for the  loss of eyesight of 16 patients who underwent eye surgery at a free medical camp organised by the hospital here on November 14.Kurnool district health and medical officer DC Venkatapathi and District Blindness Control Society coordinator K Anjaneyulu sealed the hospital, stating that further action would be taken as per the instructions of the government. They said that a probe into the incident by the health department revealed that the patients lost their eyesight due to negligence of the doctors and management. The health officials claimed that they were making all attempts to partially restore the eyesight of 11 patients and the other five patients had no chance of getting their eyesight back. The doctors conducted a free eye surgery camp for 33 patients, but 16 of them lost their vision due to an eye infection after the surgery. Though the doctors had initially claimed innocence and the hospital management reportedly had tried to hush up the matter, the government initiated action against them after a public outcry.
