Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday urged both men and women to change their mindset towards women so as to ensure empowerment of women in its true perspective.
The desired results could not be achieved by enactment of laws and formulating schemes unless there was a change in the mindset, said Hooda addressing the Northern Regional Conference of Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and
Kashmir, Delhi and Haryana on 'Convergence for Empowerment of Women'.
Making a clarion call for a mass movement for women empowerment, he said, empowerment of women was not just a responsibility but should be adopted and implemented as a mission.
The National Mission for Empowerment of Women should be carried out with a missionary zeal as the objectives could not be achieved without public involvement and participation.
Stating female foeticide should be condemned by all as this is a blot on society, he also stressed for women education. Elaborating on the various schemes implemented in the state for empowerment of women, Hooda said, Haryana government had taken up many initiatives in this regard and they were showing results as the sex ration had improved over the last five years.
He also said that the state government has allowed two years child care leave to the women employees and Rs 31,000 was given to the families belonging to Scheduled Caste category and widows on the marriage of their daughters under the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Vivah Shagun Yojna.
An amount of Rs 11,000 was also provided to the families owning agricultural land less than 2.5 acres and has an annual income of Rs one lakh.
