Hit-and-run case: Salman Khan's next hearing on July 24
In June, a Mumbai sessions court ruled that Salman Khan should be charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the case.

Mumbai: The Mumbai sessions court today deferred the hearing of Salman Khan in connection with his involvement in the 2002 hit-and-run case till July 24.

Salman Khan's lawyers have also filed an application before the sessions court requesting self-restraint in the media. According to the lawyers, interviews in media houses may influence the case.

In June, the session court ruled that the actor should be charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the case - a charge under IPC which attracts 10 years of imprisonment.

The June 24 order was a major setback to the actor, who was earlier tried by Bandra metropolitan magistrate court for a lesser charge of rash and negligent act causing death, under section 304 A of IPC, which attracts two years of imprisonment.

A Mumbai sessions court ruled in June that the actor must be tried for culpable homicide not amounting for murder in the case -- a serious charge under IPC which attracts 10 years' punishment in jail.

One person was killed and four others were injured when the Land Cruiser, allegedly driven by Salman Khan, crushed a group of people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra in the early hours on September 28, 2002.
