Heavy rains lash parts of Himachal, normal life affected
Flash flood threat loomed large in the lower areas as all the major rivers- Ravi, Beas and Sutlej and their tributaries were flowing above danger mark and the government has directed the deputy commissioners to remain prepared to meet any eventuality arising out of flash floods.

Shimla: Rains lashed most parts of Himachal Pradesh triggering landslides following which roads were blocked in several parts of the state. Sirmaur, Una and Solan districts got heavy rains while several other areas had moderate to light showers.

Chokhang village in Lahaul and Spiti was worst hit as flash floods caused by rains washed away several hectare of cultivated lands with peas and potato crops. Flash flood threat loomed large in the lower areas as all the major rivers- Ravi, Beas and Sutlej and their tributaries were flowing above danger mark and the government has directed the deputy commissioners to remain prepared to meet any eventuality arising out of flash floods.

The 1500 Mw Nathpa-Jhakri project, 412 -MW Rampur project and other power projects which were shut down due to heavy silt have resumed power generation but the people living downstream Pandoh Dam in Mandi district have been cautioned against going near the river banks as water level could rise suddenly due to release of water from the dam which has been filled to brim following rains.

Sirmaur and Una districts got heavy rains and Paonta Sahib was wettest in the region with 150 mm rains. Dharampur recorded 83mm rains, followed by Solan and Una 70 mm, Kasauli 61 mm, Kandaghat, Sangrah and Rajgarh 49 mm, Berthin 45 mm, Guler 44 mm, Shimla, Arki and Rohru 40 mm, Jhandutta 34 mm, Mehre 33 mm, Bangana 32 mm, Jubbal-30, Pandoh and Kahu 27mm, Manali 25.0 mm, Mandi 20 mm and Chamba 17.0 mm.

The minimum temperatures dropped by 1 to 2 degrees and Keylong and Kalpa in the tribal districts of Lahaul & Spiti and Kinnaur were the coldest at night with 11.2 degrees. Key tourist destinations of Manali, Shimla, Dalhousie and Dharamshala recorded a low of 12 degree, 14.6 degree, 14.9 degree and 15.4 degree respectively followed by Una 17 degree, Bhuntar 17.6 degree, Solan 18 degree, Nahan 18.4 degree, Kangra 18.7 degree, Chamba 19.8 degree, Sundernagar 20.1 degree, Bilaspur 21.7 degree and Hamirpur 22.7 degree Celsius.

The maximum temperatures also dropped by 2 to 3 degrees and Una was the hottest in day with a high of 28.8 degree followed by Kangra 27.6 degree, Nahan 25.2 degree, Dharamshala 24.6 degree, Sundernagar 24 degree, Bhuntar 22.6 degree, Solan 20 degree, Manali 17.2 degree, Shimla 17.1 degree and Kalpa 14 .8 degree Celsius.

The local MET department has issued warning of heavy rainfall in low and mid hills on July 12 and 15 and predicted rains and thundershowers in low, mid and high hills for next six days.
