TIRUPATI: Heavy rain accompanied by high velocity winds lashed many places in the district bringing respite to people from scorching heat on Wednesday.Normal life in the pilgrim town of Tirupati was disrupted due to heavy downpour, along with lightening and thunder, for more than an hour. The bright searing sun suddenly changed into cool and cloudy sky in the late afternoon drizzling the area, which soon turned into heavy rains.The uprooted trees and branches fallen on the roads at several places affected traffic in the town. Unable to withstand the high wind, hoardings at junctions were also fell off. Hailstorms along with rains were also reported from some places in the town.Power supply was also affected as the Transco authorities disconnected electricity as a precautionary measure after electric wires were snapped at many places due to uprooting of the trees or the branches. Personnel from electric department had a tough time in fixing up the wires at Srinivasam, KT road, and other areas to restore power supply, which resumed at 6. Heavy rains hit several places in Chittor district also.
