KOCHI: The general body meeting of the Nutrition Society of India-Kochi Chapter will be held on October 29 at Hotel Avenue Regency at 3 pm. The programme aims at taking preventive measures to overcome the spread of communicable and non-communicable diseases. The people are facing high morbidity due to re-emergence of communicable diseases and second-generation problems. “We can prevent diseases to a greater extent through proper nutrition intake and eating habits,” says Dr Mumtaz Khalid Ismail, nutrition consultant, NRHM. “Proper nutrition is a basic human need and a prerequisite for a healthy life. A proper diet is essential from very early age of life for growth, development and active life,” she added.A paper presentation on the topic ‘Overcoming nutritional deficiency and the treatment in the Indian Scenario’ will be made by a team led by Dr Hement Rao and Dr Venkit Rao from CFTRI, Mysore. Dr Mumtaz Khalid Ismail, Dr Anu Zachariah of EMC, Dr Leena of KIMS will also attend the function. The meeting will discuss various aspects of nutritional diet. Also, a decision has been made to organise a public awareness campaign as a joint venture of NRHM, the District Administration and District Health Department from next month onwards.
