BANGALORE: Karnataka High Court on Friday reserved its order on the petition challenging Transport Department's decision to allow 40,000 more autorickshaws on the city streets.
Appearing for the Transport Department, the advocate general contended that only the department was authorised to decide on issuing new permits to autorickshaws and it had decided to give permit to 40,000 more autos after considering all the issues that the petitioners had raised. The petitioners have contended that city streets are already congested with vehicles and an addition of 40,000 new autorickshaws will worsen the situation and lead to frequent traffic jams.
