Ahmedabad: Over 300 people were affected by food poisoning at a village in Viramgam taluka of the district following consumption of contaminated substance on Tuesday, district officials said.
"Almost the entire village of over 300 people has been affected due to food poisoning at Vekaria village of Viramgam taluka," District Development Officer Banchha Nidhi Pani said.
"Today being Muharram, some drink was distributed among the people of the village, which seems to have caused poisoning. This is what the primary assessment shows," he said adding district officials have rushed to the spot to provide help.
Besides, four ambulances have been sent to transport the patients to nearby primary health centres from the village where they could be provided better treatment, he added.
He said that presently the focus is on providing treatment to the affected people, and later we would find out the reason behind the incident.
