THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Air Vice-Marshal GP Singh has assumed charge as the Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration (SOA) of Southern Air Command (SAC) at Akkulam. Commissioned as a flying pilot on July 7, 1978, Singh has flown a variety of aircraft, including Otter, Kiran, HT-2, HPT-32, Avro and AN-32, and is also an A2 Qualified Flying Instructor. The officer was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal in 2008.Singh has held several posts, including that of Commanding Officer, HQ Central Air Command Communication Flight; Directing Staff at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington; Joint Director, Personal Officers (Transports) at Air HQ; Chief Operations Officer at Air Force Station, Agra; Commanding Officer, 12 Squadron; Chief Instructor at Fixed Wing Training Faculty (FWTF), Air Force Station, Yelahanka; and Air Officer Commanding at Air Force Station, Jorhat.Prior to his current assignment, Singh was Additional Director General (A) at Directorate General, National Cadet Corps.
