THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Twenty five years after introducing sports quota for providing employment to sports persons, the State Government is wondering whether it has contributed in any way for the betterment of the sports sector in the state. The government has appointed Kerala Sports Council assistant secretary (technical) and Olympian, Bobby Aloysius, to get the answers for eight important questions and submit a report on subjects which include the issue that ‘Express’ had reported on December 23, 2011. ‘Express’ had pointed out ‘Sports persons appointed in government service on sports quota should give a declaration that they are quitting sports, if they want a permanent seat in the service along with other benefits. Otherwise, the incumbent has to reach the age of 35 years to claim the benefits.’ Also, there were widespread allegations that deserving sports persons were being neglected while considering for employment under sports quota. It was alleged that many little known sports persons sneak into the list while internationally-acclaimed sports persons had to wait outside. The report should also find the reason, if the sports quota did not provide any good to the development of the sports. “We aim at ending the present scenario where the athletes call it a day when they get a job in the government service. They are appointed in supernumerary posts and we seek suggestions on how this problem can be rectified and made effective for the sports sector of the state.’’ Bobby told ‘Express.’ She would also find how did courts intervene in the appointments and is there any sports item to be included or omitted from the list for employment.Bobby would submit a report within two months after consulting with athletes of international report, persons who got appointment in sports quota, experts and coaches. She was asked to file a detailed report after her interim report regarding the sports quota appointments, as instructed by Sports Minister K B Ganesh Kumar.
