KANNUR: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the functioning of the government has come to a standstill in the state. He was addressing a memorial meet after offering floral tributes at the memorial column built for the late communist leader Azhikkodan Raghavan at Payyambalam here on Friday.“Even as rat fever and other epidemics are playing havoc with the lives of the people, the government machinery has become totally inactive. The public health care system which was streamlined by the previous government could not do anything to ameliorate the sufferings of the people,” Pinarayi said.“Non-availability of essential medicines and hospitals sans doctors have virtually thrown the public health sector into a state of chaos.” Referring to the latest revelations concerning the 2G Spectrum scandal, the CPM state secretary said that the role of Union Minister P Chidambaram in the scandal also should be probed by the CBI. He demanded that Chidambaram should resign from the Cabinet and face the probe. “The UPA Government is facing a serious credibility problem and the recent disclosures have placed even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the shadow of doubt,” he added.
