Government seeks more time for OROP, veterans will escalate protest, target senior ministers: Sources
The ex-servicemen met Rajnath Singh on Friday and he later had a meeting with Modi putting forward the grievances of the veterans.

As the protest for One Rank One Pension enters 76th day and no breakthrough in sight even after the series of meetings with the Narendra Modi government, the protest is likely to be escalated with senior ministers being the target.

The ex-servicemen met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday and he later had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi putting forward the grievances of the veterans.

Sources said that the government has asked for some more time but veterans say if OROP is not implemented in due course of time, then protests will definitely be escalated. There will be protest against senior ministers too, sources added.

One Rank One Pension scheme has been a long-standing demand of nearly 3 million ex-servicemen and war widows in the country. It seeks to ensure that a uniform pension is paid to defence personnel who retire at the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement.

Till now, nine war veterans and a father of a martyr are on fast-unto-death. Colonel Pushpender Singh, Havaldar Major Singh, Havaldar Ashok Chauhan, Havaldar Sahib Singh, Major Piar Chand Rana, Naik Uday Singh, Commander AK Sharma, Vijay Singh Yadav, SWR Keshav Singh and Samwal Ram Yadav, father of martyr Sunil Kumar Yadav are on fast-unto-death.
