New Delhi: Good news for lawyers and aspiring judges. The Supreme Court has suggested to bring down the minimum age limit for the High Court judges to 38 from 45.

With the new age limit for judges, many lawyers believe it will become easier to become a judge of the Supreme Court.

"I appreciate the idea of Supreme Court on reducing age limit to become judge. If a lawyer is at the age of 40 and if he is alleviated to the bench of HC then he has atleast 22 years of experience as a HC judge, " said a lawyer, Vikas Pahwa.

"There are magistrates in lower courts who are in their late twenties. But they handle relatively simple cases. Also by this age, lawyers get to handle a variety of cases," added another lawyer.

Lawyers say that at the age of 38 one has an experience of almost 10 to 15 years and can handle the judge responsibility fairly.

"Every judge has a dream to go the SC, that is the apex court in the country. And if your alleviated to the HC for the bar at an early age you have a change of going to the SC. That will be and added attraction for the young lawyers," added Vikas.

With the lowering down the age limit of HC judge, government would be able to fill up a huge number of vacancies. At present there are 134 vacancies of HC judges.

While the lawyers are excited about the idea of being appointed as judges at the age of 38, former judges say only young lawyers with outstanding abilities can be appointed as judges.
