PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry police will form ‘Friends of Police’(FoP) to check crime in the Union Territory, said Senior Superintendent of Police V J Chandran. He was speaking at a press meet organised at the Orleanpet police station on Wednesday.Chandran said interested persons could join the FoP by approaching the nearest police station with their photographs and bio-data, adding that the police would verify their background before their enrolment. He made it clear that selected persons would not be entitled to any kind of remuneration as the FoP service was voluntary.As a first step in this regard, Chandran asked Orleanpet police officials to register the names of those youth who helped nab a burglar in Orleanpet on Tuesday night.The SSP (L&O) said three teams, led by inspectors Basacaradas, Balakrishnan and Sivakumar, had been formed to check the chain-snatching incidents in the Union Territory.He said the police officials were conducting regular meetings with the representatives of hotels, jewellery merchants, bar owners to give them instructions on how to check thefts and crimes on their premises.
