According to police, Manjunath was a sepoy in Indian Army for four years while Srinivas, an MBA graduate, who had suffered losses in call centre business. Ashok is a BSc graduate while Chandru holds a diploma in computer science.Manjunath had a Maruti 800 car and the other accused were allegedly stopping vehicles during night to seek money by saying them that petrol had dried up in his car and took their account numbers and phone numbers promising them of returning the money. Later, he was sending text messages to their phones and if they called back, he spoke like a girl and was asking them to come to a specific location.Upon their arrival, the four accused, in the guise of police, used to nab them saying that they had received complaints from girls against them. Later, they were robbing them,” the police explained. However, their plan did not work with Naveen Reddy, a software engineer.He was robbed of Rs 20,000 and they had locked up him in a room demanding `2 lakh. He agreed to pay `1 lakh and asked his friend to bring the money to a place near his office in Whitefield. Accordingly, the accused took him to the company there.
