Former Samajwadi Party MP Ram Sagar Rawat was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday after he repeatedly failed to appear before a local court in connection with a 2008 case.
Rawat, his son and sitting SP MLA Rammagan Rawat, and 32 others were booked for violating prohibitory orders during a protest, in which they had burnt effigy of the then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
After repeated summons, Rawat had appeared before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Humayun Rashid Khan, who sent him to judicial custody.
