Patna: In the first successful eye transplantation in Bihar, a man from Begusarai got back his eye sight at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS).
IGIMS medical superintendent S K Shahi said that the eye sight of the 40-year-old was restored after a two-hour operation.
Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, who had inaugurated state's first eye bank at IGIMS on Saturday, congratulated the hospital and the doctors for first successful eye transplantation.
Shahi said the man had lost sight in his both eyes and a woman relative, who died in IGIMS, had donated her eyes. One of them was transplanted on him by a team of doctors led by Nilesh Mohan and Bibhuti Sharan.
The man can now use his transplanted eye totally and can see 100 per cent from it, he said.
